BRING YOUR OWN HORSE to these clinics. These clinics are guaranteed to teach you more about becoming a team member with your horse. Bring any horse to these clinics, young or old at any level. Not only are these clinics a great way to work one on one with a professional trainer for a whole week, but this is also a great opportunity to get away, relax and have a great horse vacation! Bill Haven brings 30 years of horsemanship knowledge to share with you. He brings 25 years of owning his professional training barn in Colorado to you. He has trained world class champions in the show ring, taught college horsemanship camps, and trained hundreds (if not thousands!) of horses at every level. (See about us)
Each day Bill will explain and perform a combination of training methods to get you and your horse working together. Not only will he work with your horse, but he will also work with you to get you and your horse working better together. These methods will work for you if you want your horse to work better on the trail, if your horse needs to be know more training steps before being on the trail, or if you simply want to know more about training and have a fun filled horse vacation. Even if you do not own a horse yet and this sounds fascinating, we encourage you to come.
Watch and learn how he explains to first have a good trail horse you must get the horse softer to the rein and to your leg. Bill may work a horse on the ground in the round corral to encourage a horse to be softer in the bridle at one time and then he may help you over one of the obstacles on our on site trail course at another time. Do not worry, we will be doing lots of actual trail riding on the real trails. And there are also other fun activities to do during this week including visiting ANCESTORAL PUEBLOAN INDIAN SITES. Wildlife are usually seen at the ranch and on many of the hikes. Part of the day is for working horses and the rest of the day can be used for one of our scheduled activities or for doing activities on your own such as; fishing, hiking, biking, relaxing, or visiting nearby museums, forests, or National Parks.
MEALS: All lodging, ranch activities, and meals are included in the price. Just imagine sitting around the campfire enjoying a fresh baked meal. Meals include oak smoked ribs, home style cooked meals such as; turkey dinners with mashed potatoes and gravy or Italian dinners such as; homemade lasagna with green salads and homemade soups. The next morning will include a full breakfast such as; eggs, bacon, toast, sausage and biscuits, you name it we will have it! Please contact us for special dietary needs.
FRIDAY: Afternoon/ evening: Check in not before 1:00. Get yourselves and your horses settled in. Get acquainted with us and other guests as we discuss the upcoming weekly events over a campfire during dinner.
SATURDAY: Morning: Work horses at ranch in round corral (get a good understanding of why having a softer horse and collection is important to your trail horse).
Afternoon: Short trail ride around ranch, this trail is good to work on obstacles along the way. You will have the opportunity to see Indian dwelling sites along the way. This trail is on privately owned land. This guided tour will take you along a beautiful ancient trail through the pinyon and juniper trees where Anasazi Indians walked!
SUNDAY: Morning: Each training day will build from the day before, watch as your horse has learned from the previous training day.
Afternoon: Another short trail ride around ranch to work on obstacles along the way (may be a different trail from the day before, depending on progress).
MONDAY: Morning: Build on your training methods from the day before. Depending on progress, training sessions will be done in round corral or on a short trail ride.
Afternoon: Let your horse rest for the afternoon, and we can take a hike from the ranch to a pristine Indian dwelling not far from the ranch (on private land). You will walk next to this small dwelling and still see their ancient fingerprints in the clay! If you are not up to hiking this day, do not worry. You may just want to relax in the hammock back at the ranch or you may do an activity on your own such as fishing or taking a drive up the Forest. This is your vacation!
TUESDAY: Pack a lunch today, we will be riding on the National Forest and will be riding for most of the day. You will ride a beautiful, peaceful, quiet trail through Ponderosas, pinyons, junipers, and oaks.
WEDNESDAY: Morning: By this day, horses and riders are usually ready to relax. Training sessions are completed today, but most of the day is spent visiting wonderful museums and trading posts in the town of Blanding. We have two incredible Indian artifact museums and one Dinosaur Museum here in Blanding. All three museums will surprise you to find them here in Blanding. They are all famous museums with incredible exhibits. You do not want to miss seeing these museums while you are visiting southeast Utah. Museum costs are included in your package. Blanding also offers many trading posts that sell Indian jewelry and pottery.
THURSDAY: Breakfast provided, check out by 11:00.
