NIGHT BEFORE, Check in not before 1:00.  Unpack, settle in, get acquainted with the Abajo Haven Guest Ranch.  Have dinner while learning about the upcoming weekly activities

1ST DAY:       A.M.  1 ½ hour hike down an ancient anasazi trail.  See two unique, pristine Anasazi dwellings on private land.  Learn how this ancient culture lived and survived in this area at least 700 years ago.  Walk down this canyon wall through the beautiful juniper and pinyon pine forest.

P.M.  (2 hrs) ATV down Johnson Creek Trail.  This trail begins at the ranch and leads you down a trail to larger Indian dwellings than you saw this morning.  You will enjoy the great outdoors as you go down this peaceful trail.  More than likely we will have this guided tour to ourselves since most of this trail is on private land.  The cluster of dwellings that are at the end of this trail are incredible!  This culture built these dwellings on the side of the canyon wall.  Look up and view a large cluster of this dwellings that date back to at least the year 1300.  These dwellings are still intact.  You will love spending time on this trail as it is in a private location. Most of the time we see wildlife (deer and wild turkeys) along this trail.

2ND DAY:  Pack your lunch! If you thought yesterday was amazing, wait until you see Montezuma Canyon. You will leave around 10:00 in the morning to go down Montezuma Canyon.  This is a vehicle tour that is approximately 45 minutes from the ranch.  This canyon was a major route for not only the Anasazi Indians (1 B.C. to 1300 a.d.), but also for the Ute Indians (1800s) and for the Spaniards (1500s). There are many, many dwellings that you can view from this road.  You will also view a large panel of petrographs from the Anasazi and Ute Indians.  Every time WE visit this canyon, we get a new sense of how special this area really is.  Enjoy the true west.  A picnic Lunch is served under shaded cottonwood trees near an old corral.

3RD DAY:  AM  Enjoy more ATV riding in the rugged wilderness.  Stop and view wildlife and scenery.

PM  Enjoy an early dinner and you can take your pick of either fishing or wildlife viewing.  By this time of the year, the doe deer are bringing out their baby fawns in the early evening.

4TH DAY:  AM Enjoy going into dry wash dwellings.  We will travel a short distance into the forest and hike one mile into dry wash dwellings.  Of all the dwellings you have seen so far, these will amaze you the most.  You will still be able to view the sticks that this ancient culture used to construct these dwellings.

PM  Early dinner once again to choose either fishing or wildlife viewing.  Do not worry, if you caught a fish the day before, you will want to go again.  Or even if you were lucky enough to see baby fawns yesterday, you will want to see them again.

5TH DAY:  AM   Last day!   We will take the whole gang to the magnificent museums that Blanding has to offer.  Blanding offers two Indian artifact museums and one Dinosaur Museum.  These museums are famous and are quite a surprise to have here.  Their exhibits are incredible!  You would not want to miss seeing these museums while you visit Blanding. The cost of the museums are included in your vacation package. There are also several trading posts that sell Indian jewelry that you may want to visit. And I am sure there will be time to get ice cream on the way back to the ranch!
